Deputy Arrested for Stealing More Than 400 Pain Pills
BENTON, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff's deputy in Saline County was arrested on suspicion of taking more than 400 pain pills from a home in Alexander.
Authorities say Deputy Paul Babbitt was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft of property and possession of a prescription drug without a prescription. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Babbitt posted bond shortly after he was booked in the jail.
Authorities did not know if he had an attorney.
Authorities say the arrest came after a 60-year-old man told investigators that someone took 400 Dilaudid pain pills from his home.
Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Scottie Courtney says he didn't know whether Babbitt knew the man.
Authorities say Babbitt is on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation
